What is Hypertension?
Hypertension is also known as high blood pressure. Generally in a normal and healthy person, the blood pressure remains 120 systolic and 80 diastolic. But when there are abnormalities in the arteries of the circulatory system, the systolic pressure rises very high and at times, the diastolic also rises.
Due to the narrowness in the arteries the pressure may rise and the heart has to work harder for pushing the blood through them and as a result of which there is high blood pressure, and in medical terms this is called ‘hypertension’.
• Symptoms of Hypertension:
Though it’s normal for the blood pressure to rise high during excitement and at certain emotional moments, it goes down shortly. So ,such rises do not cause any harmful effects. But when blood pressure continues to remain excessively high it causes various disorders, such as lack of strength, tiredness, headache, and at times, difficulty in breathing, bad temper, visionary troubles, and coldness in the hands and feet.
Besides, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, vision problems, chest pain, irregular heartbeat and blood in the urine all are symptoms of hypertension. However, many cases of high blood pressure are asymptomatic. This is why periodic blood pressure screening are recommended.
• Causes If Hypertension:
The most common causes of hypertension include smoking, obesity or being overweight, diabetes, having a sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, high salt consumption, too much alcohol intake, insufficient consumption of calcium, potassium or magnesium, a deficiency in vitamin D, stress, ageing, chronic kidney disease and adrenal and thyroid conditions or tumours. Some individual may also be genetically predisposed to hypertension. Myself is an instance of genetically predisposed to hypertension. Both my parents were having patients with hypertension. So we have to carry it.
• The Best Way to Prevent Hypertension:
The best way to get rid of the disease is to eat healthy and get exercise. Reduction of stress, anxiety, healthy lifestyle, avoid smoking, less salt and alcohol intake are also helpful ways to prevent hypertension.
But regular yoga practice is the most effective way to be kept away from hypertension. In the first phase, we can practice only Shava Asana and twice or thrice daily. Only Shava Asana can cure you of hypertension.
Proper practise of this Asana for two to three weeks brings a remarkable good effect on the patient of heart ailments and of hypertension. It corrects the disorders of the circulatory system by relaxing the nerves and internal organs. Because of normalizing and relaxing effects on the arteries, hypertension is reduced and gradually it comes in a normal position.
